INTELLECT to support young scholars

21.07.2021

We solicit applications for a competitive selection of young scientists to receive grant support at Lomonosov Moscow State University from the Intellect Non-Profit Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Education.

The Foundation has forged workable ties with crucial partners in the field of artificial intelligence. This fact, coupled with the solid potential of Lomonosov Moscow State University, would be instrumental in elevating AI study to a new level. This Competition is the segue to a prior initiative of the MSU Rector, whose idea was to set up a system of cross-disciplinary research and taught schools such as “A School for Study of the Brain”, “Cognitive Systems and Artificial Intelligence”, and “The Boundaries of Artificial Intelligence Initiative”.

The intent of this Competition is to bring a contingent of young scholars into the University and give them support as they pursue desktop and/or applied research in the following areas under the tutelage of Moscow University's top academics:

  • Artificial Intelligence,
  • Cognitive Systems,
  • Brain.

Eligible entrants may not be older than 35 years of age.

  • They are required to hold a Specialist's or Master's degree as of September 1, 2021, and to either be in graduate school at Moscow State University or to have filed for admission to MSU graduate school (contenders for a position as a young scholar);
  • alternatively, an eligible entrant holds a Candidate's degree or a Ph.D. as of September 1, 2021, and satisfies the publication requirements stated in the Competition Charter (contenders for a post-doctoral position).

In order to effectuate Competition entry, prospective research advisors of the contenders (staff members of the University tasked with supervising the research of postdocs and/or young scholars) are to complete and submit an electronic competition application form on ISTINA IAS, attaching scans of the pertinent documents (including the resumes of the research advisor and the contender, details of the planned research, letters of reference for the contender, and competition entry application form signed by the leader of the organizational subdivision concerned) on or before August 30, 2021.

The winning scholars will receive a full suite of support on a long-term basis from Moscow State University and the Intellect Foundation, which includes:

  • a substantial monthly salary and extensive benefits package;
  • research grants (for attendance at conferences and research schools, as well as for hardware and software purchases).

The Foundation's team is consistently working on new ideas to advance and promote the said fields of study at Lomonosov Moscow State University. The relevant information and the Charter of Competitive Selection can be found in the Grant Support section of the Intellect Foundation's official website.
